Spring Problem Hampers Musgrave’s Michigan Run
A problem with the left rear spring left the No. 59 Team ASE/Harris Trucking Toyota with a persistent handling problem leaving Ted Musgrave with a disappointing 24th-place finish in Saturday’s Cool City Customs 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
“We were just way too loose,” Musgrave said. “We had a spring rubber in the left rear and tried to pull it out to tighten us up and for some reason we couldn’t get it out. It was so loose that every time I pointed it into the turns it felt like it wanted to spin out.”
Musgrave was doing his best to keep his truck in one piece but he also had to avoid his fellow competitors – one of which almost collected Musgrave as he was riding the rim trying to stay high and as far away from everyone else as he could.
“I was really loose and you could tell I was if you were behind me,” Musgrave said. “I was on the high side just trying to hold on and then someone tried to slip between me and the wall. I don’t know what he was thinking but I wasn’t too happy about it at the time. Thankfully we didn’t wreck.”
Musgrave unofficially sits 16th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings, 59 points behind Colin Braun and Brendan Gaughan who are tied for 14th and just 129 points behind Michigan winner Erik Darnell in tenth.
Next up for Musgrave and the No. 59 Team ASE/Harris Trucking Toyota is the Milwaukee 200 at The Milwaukee Mile. Musgrave is a two-time Milwaukee winner, going to victory lane in 2001 and 2004. SPEED will have the live broadcast at 8:30 P.M. Eastern and MRN Radio will have the live radio call on selected affiliates nationwide and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
