Keeping me Hopping: “These past two weeks I have really been busy. It may look like we’ve had two weeks off to sit at home but we’ve been far from doing that. I have traveled so much lately, from across the state of Texas to speaking to over 400 Zachry people last Friday in Alabama. I’m learning and meeting new people in the different departments. I’ve been to an oil refinery and met people who update job sites after the EPA makes a change. I’ve learned so much about these jobs taking place out there. Man Zachry employees do everything under the sun. It’s an all encompassing company made to fit any company’s needs.”
Rain Delays and Strategy: “The past two Camping World Truck Series races have been rain delayed and eventually rescheduled, so hopefully this week that will not be the same case, although the North Carolina area has been getting pummeled with rain lately. Rain, or the threat thereof, affects your strategy in the race. You can go from having a plan of pitting on lap X and realize that a rain storm is coming, and you are over half way through the race and think well if I pit on Y instead then I may could outsmart them and get some track position. Or sometimes you may gamble longer on fuel and try to keep your position. Sometimes it really works, but others it can bite you if you don’t predict right. That’s where a race can be won or lost on pit road. It is such a team sport and so crucial that everyone stay on their toes and ahead of the game.”
Unlike Most Charlotte is Not My Home Track: “A lot of people like the next two weeks of racing because they get to stay at home, but in Charlotte that is not the case for me. I live in Texas, so it’s not home to me. I also get two weeks at home but they are spread out over the season. It’s nice to know you can sleep in your own bed, don’t have to pack or the travel. So we will be looking forward to that time here in a few weeks when the Texas race comes around.”
