David Starr
No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra
AAA Insurance 200 Presented by J.D. Byrider
O’Reilly Raceway Park

Claremont, IN, (July 24, 2009) – David Starr started off in the AAA Insurance 200 tight, with no forward bite.  But it didn’t take long for the Texas native to realize how to drive around his no forward bite condition and ride around in the top five on the short track.  Starr maneuvered his way around other competitors two-wide and sometimes three-wide to gain spots, but a late race caution caused the driver to lose a few positions when other competitors behind him had fresher tires.  Starr went on to finish the event in the ninth spot, his eighth top-10 finish of the season.  Starr is fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver’s points.
The No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra Race Recap

  • Starr qualified his Toyota Tundra in the 14th position with a lap time of 22.746 seconds at a speed of 108.573 mph.
  • The first caution of the night didn’t come until lap 37 and Starr told his Crew Chief Jason Miller, “I am tight in the center and have no forward bite.”  Miller called his driver into the pits for a wedge adjustment, four tires and Sunoco fuel.  Starr restarted in the 19th position.
  • Then his No. 24 Zachry Toyota Tundra came alive.  By lap 87 Starr had passed two and three wide and had settled in the fifth spot.
  • Then on lap 93 the second caution of the night came out.  Starr said he needed more help in the center.  So Miller called for another wedge adjustment while adding fresh tires and fuel.
  • Following the restart Starr settled into the sixth spot.  Then on lap 153 he took the fifth spot from Kyle Busch.  Miller encouraged his driver, “Go Get ‘Em Baby!”
  • The third caution came out on lap 159.  Starr told Miller once again, “It is still tight in the center but better than the start of the race.”  The team chose not to pit.  Starr restarted in the fifth spot on lap 165.
  • Then the fourth caution came out on lap 171 when two other competitors spun in front of Starr. The Texas native inherited the fourth spot and was ready to finish out the final laps of the 200-lap event.
  • But unfortunately on lap 185 the fifth caution came out.  Starr was sitting in the fourth spot with numerous teams behind him who had fresher tires, a big advantage on the short track in Indianapolis.
  • Starr fought hard in the final laps to stay in the top 10 and managed to do so when he crossed the finish line in the ninth spot on lap 200.  It was Starr’s eighth top-10 finish this season.

Ron Hornaday won the AAA Insurance 200 Presented by J.D. Byrider.  Mike Skinner, Aric Almirola, Dennis Setzer and Colin Braun followed in the top five.
