LEBANON, Tenn., (August 1, 2009) –Cajun Industries driver Terry Cook’s finishing position was not indicative of his race at Nashville Superspeedway for the Toyota Tundra 200. Cook qualified his Tundra in the fifth starting spot and held his position in the top five most of the race. With only two laps to go, Cook blew out a right rear tire which caused his No. 25 Cajun Industries/HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra to spin. Cook hit the wall and bent up the rear of the Tundra before he limped to a 19th place finish.
The No. 25 Cajun Industries/ HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra Race Recap
- Cook qualified his No. 25 Cajun Industries Toyota Tundra in the fifth spot with a lap time of 30.395 seconds at a speed of 157.881 mph.
- The competition caution came out on lap 35 and Cook was running comfortably in third. He said, “It’s a little tight everywhere but is not bad.” The team pitted for fresh tires and made adjustments to the left rear jack bolt before sending Cook back on the speedway.
- Cook held on through the next cautions in the fourth position. Finally under caution on lap 83 the team chose to pit for four fresh tires. Cook said, “It was tighter during this run than the last.” So the team elected to put on tires, fill him up with fuel and put one round in the right rear.
- Cook restarted 11th on lap 88 as some teams in front of him only took right side tires.
- Under caution on lap 100 for sprinkling rain Cook told his team that it was definitely a lot looser than it was from the beginning of the race.
- The race restarted on lap 105 and Cook was running eighth. On lap 109 Cook went three wide trying to pass for the seventh spot. He eventually settled into the ninth spot and radioed to Crew Chief Danny Rollins, “My truck is getting tighter and tighter the more we run.”
- Then on lap 145 with Cook in the 10th spot and slowing down significantly, he radioed in saying, “I’m just trying to finish here my right rear tire feels like it is gone.
- Then unfortunately on lap 148 Cook’s tire blew causing him to spin and hit the wall bringing out a caution and a green-white-checkered flag restart.
- The team quickly jumped into action getting their driver to where he could race for three more laps. They placed bear bond on the rear of the truck, changed tires and sent Cook back on the track limping for the finish.
- Cook stayed out of the way of other competitors and finished the event in the 19th position.
Ron Hornaday won the Toyota Tundra 200. Brian Scott, Colin Braun, Timothy Peters and Matt Crafton followed in the top five.
