Pit Road Counts: “This is one place where a bad pit stop can push you back a ton and make it hard to catch up. Bristol is hard to pass on and if you get caught on pit road and lose your track position then sometimes it is almost impossible to pass to get those lost positions back. So in Bristol the pressure is not only on for the driver to keep his fenders in tack, and stay on his toes to what is going on in front of him, but also on the pit crew to really crank out a fast pit stop to keep that position for the driver on the track.”
Mentally Prepared: “I have to make sure I am mentally prepared for this race. Bristol is so fast. You go around the track in about 15 seconds and things happen fast in front of you. If you are not watching or able to react quickly, you will be right in the middle of it. The key to Bristol is unloading fast, tweaking your setup, having good pit stops and staying out of trouble. If you can make all that happen, you can have a great finish. It is so easy to get caught up in someone else’s mess there that a driver doesn’t have much reaction time. It’s not a long race, about 16 seconds per lap for 200 laps, doesn’t take long. So focusing on your surroundings is the best way to get a good finish.”
