David Starr
No. 24 Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Toyota Tundra
EnjoyIllinois.com 225
Chicagoland Speedway

JOILET, Ill., (August 28, 2009) – David Starr got a big break in the opening laps of the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 race at Chicagoland Speedway when a caution came out as he had a tire going down.  Then Starr steadily worked his way through the field, before pitting under green-flag conditions.  Starr’s stop echoed that of the leaders and unfortunately other competitors chose another route keeping Starr and others laps down from the pit stop strategy.   Unluckily with only 13 laps to go Starr was pushed into the wall by another competitor and the No. 24 Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Toyota Tundra sustained damage.  Starr finished the event in the 22nd spot.

The No. 24 Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Toyota Tundra Race Recap

  • Starr qualified his Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Toyota Tundra in the 17th position with a lap time of 31.801 seconds at a speed of 169.806 mph.
  • By the second caution on lap 20 Starr was saying his Tundra was a little free on entry.  The team pitted for four fresh tires and got a big break when they noticed one of their tires was going down.  The team came in the following lap for fuel and made adjustments to the track bar and wedge.  Starr restarted on lap 25 in the 20th position.
  • Then under the third caution on lap 30, Starr, who was listed in the 13th spot, said his truck was better.
  • In the ensuing laps Starr battled it out three-wide at times for the 12th and 13th spot.  By lap 70 he was 12th.  Then on lap 73 the leaders started green flag pit stops.
  • Starr inherited the fifth spot before he pitted on lap 82 under green himself.  The team changed four tires and sent Starr back on the track.  He pitted again the following lap for fuel.  Starr resumed racing in the 20th spot two laps down.
  • Unfortunately for the Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Racing Team some other competitors did not get tires on their green-flag pit stop and therefore they were listed ahead of Starr.
  • On lap 95 the fourth caution came out when Ricky Carmichael wrecked in front of Starr.  The team chose not to pit and the race resumed on lap 101 with Starr listed 19th.
  • In the following laps Starr battled it out, sometimes even four-wide, going for as many spots as he could.
  • Then with only 13 laps to go, another competitor tapped Starr in the left rear and sent him sliding up into the wall bringing out the last caution of the day.  The team quickly pitted adding bear bond to the damage and trying to pull out his fender so it didn’t rub the tires.
  • The race restarted with only seven laps to go and Starr limped around with the damaged Zachry/Careerbuilder.com Tundra.  He went on to finish the race in the 22nd position.

Kyle Busch won the EnjoyIllinois 225.  Todd Bodine, Colin Braun, Rick Crawford and Johnny Sauter followed in the top five.
