Las Vegas Motor Speedway
LAS VEGAS, Nev., (Sept., 26 2009) – Terry Cook became a victim of circumstance in the Las Vegas 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Cook missed one accident which happened right in front of him, but fell short of the second accident when another competitor spun in front of his No. 25 Cajun Industries Toyota Tundra. Cook tried to miss by driving through the grass but tore off the front nose. The team was forced behind the wall to fix the Tundra before he could reenter the race. Cook finished the event in the 26th position.
The No. 25 Cajun Industries/ HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra Race Recap
- Cook qualified his No. 25 Cajun Industries Toyota Tundra in the 19th spot with a lap time of 31.476 seconds at a speed of 171.559 mph.
- Cook told Crew Chief Danny Rollins that he held the truck wide open in qualifying and the team agreed they thought the truck would race well.
- In the opening laps of the race a caution came out on lap four just in front of Cook. The team pitted to pull some tape off the right side of Cook’s grill, checked for flat spots on his tires and filled his Tundra up with fuel. Cook restarted in the 21st position.
- By the second caution of the day, Cook radioed in that his truck was loose in the center and it needed an adjustment. Rollins agreed they would help Cook on the next pit stop. The second caution came out on lap 22 when Brian Ickler wrecked just in front of Cook.
- Cook drove through the grass to miss the accident and knocked the front nose off his truck.
- So he went behind the pit wall and the HT Motorsports Racing Team went to work. They repaired the damage as best as they could under the circumstances. They cut off the sheet metal that was hanging off and replaced the front nose with another one. Then they sent Cook back on the race track 34 laps down to the leader.
- Cook came in after that point because his Tundra was running hot. The team had to cut holes in the nose for the engine to cool properly.
- Cook went on to finish the event in the 26th position.
Johnny Sauter won the Las Vegas 350. Matt Crafton, Jason White, Todd Bodine and Timothy Peters followed in the top five. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will take a three-week hiatus and resume racing in Martinsville, VA on October 24th.
