Pit Strategy: “In Martinsville you don’t always have to have the best truck to win races. It can sometimes come down to pit strategy. In 2007 I led a ton of laps in the race and would have won the race until someone chose to drive into me and gave us a ton of fender damage. We led those laps by a great pit call by my Crew Chief Danny Rollins, and he chose not to pit when everyone else did. Track position is so critical there so that gave us the chance to get up front and I was able to hold onto it for a long time. The problem is in Martinsville you have to drive through someone to pass, and that always creates accidents. Our finish did not reflect our race, as we could have won it hands down.”
Over the Years: “It used to be that you could pass on the top or the bottom in Martinsville pretty easily. But the track has changed so much over the years that you cannot do that anymore. You literally have to move someone out of your way. It brings out the best in our tempers that is for sure. But I can tell you when it comes down to going for the win, any one of us will move another one out of the way for that victory. It would be so great for my owners, Jim and Shari, who are such long time NCWTS owners to win at their home track in Martinsville. I can tell you I will do all I can to get them a victory there.”
